Case Study: App Design
Problem:
Pleasure travelers have unique needs and preferences and they are frustrated navigating multiple platforms in order to book travel
Solution:
We created an app that provides customized travel experiences based on personal preferences.
Impact:
Travelers can easily find and book a variety of trips that fit their wants and needs.
Research - User Interviews
We conducted ten user interviews. We reviewed transcripts and looked at data to narrow it down to a few key insights.

-
Travel dynamics make booking travel challenging with teenagers or for people traveling solo.

-
Travelers interests vary widely.

-
Travelers want to be prepared

-
Travelers are feeling excited, curious, annoyed and stressed.
We looked for similar threads to determine common pain points.
Defining our Problem - User Insight Statement
To build empathy we developed a User Insight Statement laying out the vacation traveler's problem that we are working to solve.

During research interviews, we discovered that travelers want to feel seen and heard and have an amazing experience on their trip.
Therefore we believe that travelers need multiple travel options based on their personal preferences and needs.
Ideating - Determining Features & Proposing Value
After narrowing down our insights and defining our problem we opened up the possibilities by brainstorming. We used an "I like...I wish...what if..." method of brainstorming to come up with as many possibilities as possible that would solve our problem.

After brainstorming features we developed a value proposition based on the apps features.

Spec is developing a platform to help travelers find their ideal vacation with ease, based on their personal preferences.

We deliver value because we can provide customized vacation options that connect travelers to their desired experience.
Prototyping - User Flow
We worked through a user flow that allows travelers to set preferences and provides options based on their preferences

Prototype - Sketches to Mid Fidelity Prototype
In the early stages of prototyping we added a search feature. We had another problem to solve - how might preferences relate to the search feature? Brainstorming a few different options we came up with "search with preferences" as an option for our Mid Fidelity Prototype.

Lessons Learned
This was my first UX Design Project. So, I learned the design process!

Spending more time on the user flow and paper prototype would have led to a more streamlined mid fi prototype. We were still struggling with user flow in the mid fi prototype.

Another pain point in our process was trying to preference options for travelers with a wide variety of needs. Narrowing our persona to either solo travelers or families or another group early on in the process would have been helpful in this process. This could be a geat next step and a way to iterate on this project.
